California Highway Patrol (CHP) said a male behind a deadly crash late Tuesday was suspected of driving under the influence of marijuana.
CPH said the driver, identified as 21-year-old Dang Nguyen Hai Tran of San Jose, was arrested. Tran was not injured.
The highway patrol agency said at least three people died and five were injured after a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 880 in Fremont, a city in San Francisco Bay Area, NBC Bay Area reported.
The victims were a woman, a teen and a child. Meanwhile, five others were rushed to the hospital, and among those was a baby in critical condition, the CHP added.
Northbound lanes in the area were reopened early Wednesday.
At least eight vehicles were involved in the wreck, according to initial reports.
So far, studies have shown that smoking cannabis can affect spatial perception, but still driving under the influence of marijuana isn’t as bad as alcohol.[share-btn]
