Cynthia Nixon, the Democratic candidate running to be governor of New York, is known for her role in the popular television series “Sex and the City.”
But the actress, 52, is increasingly making her stance on marijuana legalization for her state glaringly known.
On Wednesday, Nixon posts a video on Twitter fully explaining her pro-marijuana position. She said “it is time” for New York, a blue state, to catch up with eight other U.S. states as well as D.C. in legalizing the recreational use of marijuana.

The 52-year-old said “there are a lot of good reasons for legalizing marijuana,” but for her social justice is the main reason that trumps profiteering from the green herb’s tax revenues.
“We have to stop putting people of color in jail for something that white people do with impunity,” she said. “Eighty percent of the New Yorkers, who are arrested are blacks and Latinos, despite the fact that whites and people of color use marijuana at roughly the same rates.”
She said the use of marijuana has long been “effectively legal” for them, asking: “Isn’t it time to legalize it For everyone else?”[share-btn]
